The annual Benalla Act2DfeetMND Walk/Run/Cycle will be held this Sunday (24 February) at the Benalla Lake Foreshore.
The event which started in 2008 following local resident Mick Rodger’s diagnosis of MND has been an annual event for the Benalla community to raise awareness and funds for research. Now in its 12th year the event has raised over $575,000 and has become a annual fixture in the Benalla calendar.
“We have been amazed with the support of the local community each year, they have been amazing” said Jim Myconos, Chair of the Benalla Act2DfeetMND committee.
Events on the day will include a mixture of rides, walks and foot races which provides something for all members of the community at all abilities and ages.
The committee are also extremely proud of the event and the fact that every $ raised goes to MND research.
“From day 1 we have worked on the basis that everything is donated so that every $ that is collected is sent to MND research. We wouldn’t be able to do this without the support of the local community in Benalla and Cobram and local businesses who have supported us from the first year.” said Robyn Smith.
Local musician Scott Solimo will return again to entertaining the crowds, runners and walkers throughout the morning. “Scott is just one of many great supporters who have donated their time each year and have enabled us to put on a successful and enjoyable community event.” Smith said.
Over the years the event has become a focus for many families who have lost loved ones to this insidious disease. “We are overawed by the community support each year and that the event has also enabled us to support other members of the community who are also suffering.” Smith said.
Registrations can be made via the Benalla Act2DfeetMND website or at the registration desk which opened today (Monday) at Rambling Rose in Bridge street.
