Volunteering and Support Services at MND

Since forming in 1981, volunteers and volunteering have been at the very core of MND Victoria. Volunteers undertake a range of roles and responsibilities – none more important than any other, but all contributing to the vibrant, energetic and successful Association that we see today.

Volunteers bring with them a wealth of knowledge and a wide range of experiences that support the work of MND Victoria.  They enhance the work of paid staff and help provide opportunities for an improved quality of life for people living with MND and their families.

Massaging hand

Massage Volunteers

Hand and Foot Massage volunteers needed in the following areas:

  • Bendigo
  • Bundoora
  • Campbellfield
  • Caulfield
  • Cranbourne North
  • East Melbourne
  • Essendon
  • Meadow Heights
  • Mickleham
  • Newhaven
  • Rosebud West
  • Seddon
  • South Morang
  • Whittlesea

Time required: 2 – 3 hours per week/fortnight
Preferable day: Dependent on client
Duties include: Visiting Client in home to provide gentle hand and foot massage
Essential skills: Good communication, Enjoy working with people

Hairdresser/s

Hairdressing volunteers are needed in the Melbourne Metropolitan Area:

Time required: As required
Preferable day: Dependent on client    
Duties include: Visiting Client in home to provide a haircut
Essential skills: Good communication, Enjoy working with people

Essential:

  • Must be a qualified hairdresser
  • Must have valid driver’s licence and roadworthy vehicle
  • Must have own equipment
  • Willingness to travel outside home suburb area (negotiated).

Bereavement Callers

Time required: 2-3 hours per month

Duties include: Contacting bereaved families to provide support in a sensitive, non-judgmental and respectful way

Essential skills: Empathetic, Excellent interpersonal skills

Visitor - Canterbury

Time required: 2–3 hours per fortnight or 3 weeks
Preferable day: Wednesday or Friday 12.30pm – 4.00pm
Duties include: Visiting Client in home
Essential skills: Good communication, Enjoy working with people
